This article introduces my metaphorical concept of “rationality lozenges” as a means to improve policy-making, particularly in the context of immigration during economic crises.

The 8 main points I will discuss include:

1.0 The Metaphoric Concept Of Rationality Lozenges.

The idea of introducing “Rationality Lozenges” seems to make a lot of sense when it comes to issues surrounding immigration.

As we all understand, immigration policy needs to be very carefully designed and executed, so if there was a simple way to provide policy writers with rational thinking then it’s hard to think of any downside.

This novel concept, which may appear to be whimsical at first but if you turn on your TV or Radio or head online to a news website, I would imagine within a very short time, you’ll be exposed to yet another big problem that over zealous immigration can be linked to.  

I think it should be mandated that a minimum level of rationality should be maintained when implementing a policy that could or would have a significant negative impact on the lives of millions of people.

In fact, rationality lozenges seem like a great way of ensure that the optimal amount of rationality is in-play in any situation or action where electricity generation, immigration, housing, vehicle emissions reduction, government spending, battling inflation, interest rates or the approval processes for 1 Billion Dollar or more gold mines.

We never hear about policy unmaking or policy redoing but is this an opportunity for a higher level of rationality to be introduced?

For my mind, there’s only one thing worse than a dud policy and that is relentlessly implementing a dud policy by spending billions of taxpayers dollars.

When it comes to policy-making, I think it goes without saying that decisions are frequently influenced by a myriad of factors that are not always in the national interest, ranging from political party pressures to personal biases.

These unfortunate influences can lead to outcomes that can set back communities, businesses and in some cases, the entire populace.

If we were able to develop a rationality monitoring system, the halls, offices and meeting rooms of levels of government could scanned for minimum allowable levels of rationality. 

As introducing misery is not rational, if leaders/policy makers were identified with low levels of rationality, couriers could be despatched immediately with to those needing a boost with the exact right amount of rationality lozenges to prevent irrational energy mix planning and ensure homelessness prevention rationality

Who knows, maybe something as simple as a couple of rationality lozenges might offer the glimmer of hope we’ve all been waiting for.

With Australia in particular, we’re now paying some of the worlds highest prices for electricity, natural gas, LPG, petrol, housing, health insurance, home and contents insurance, business insurance and council rates, then on top of all of that, we are close to the most heavily taxed nation in the world.

Without a doubt, we could certainly use some more rationality when it comes to addressing the irrational Australian electricity situation, so why not introduce rationality lozenges to ensure rational decision making for sustainable power supply.

 It might take a widespread increase of rationality levels amongst our leaders for them to see how there are so many good solutions at their fingertips to turn 26 million frowns upside down.

For instance, it might take a large increase in rationality levels for the idea of getting rid of the 3rd level of government by absorbing 537 shire councils into a single federal department.

When it comes to finding practical solutions to situations with a lot of emotions linked to them such as business insolvency and the Australian energy dilemma we’d all surely benefit from Rationality Experts being available to dispense rationality boosting lozenges when the most critical aspects of policies relating to these issues were about to be addressed.

If not rationality lozenges, then what?  We need something to be available that will promote a more logical and evidence-based approach to decision-making and provide the populace with accommodation during out housing crisis but first we need our leaders to fully understand the building industry’s irrational challenges

There’s no point wishing for a miracle when it comes to building a couple of million homes over the next 5 years, the reasons for our housing woes are already known but to fix the underlying issues, our leaders will need to become very unpopular with certain groups.

The fix the building industry, we need to fix the manufacturing industry and to fix the manufacturing industry, we need to fix the high costs associated with electricity and natural gas.  Gas is a great example, 24 dollars per gigajoule is irrational and the question must be asked, “Are our energy pricing mechanisms rational?”

Rationality is essential in policy-making as it ensures that decisions are made based on data, empirical evidence, and sound reasoning.

The idea of rationality lozenges might seem silly or overly simplistic to some but to me, I’m certain that rational leaders inspire nations, so if there is a silly way of ensuring widespread rationality, than I say “Let’s Do It”.

We do not need to be super green to better manage our planet; we need to be just the right amount of green.  It’s in this space that we need dramatic changes and some massive boosting of rationality.  The first thing that needs to happen is that we must cut up and recycle green tape in Australia, as irrational grand green aspirations are crippling our country.

When it comes to electricity generation, we seem to be ok with leaving a lot of very practical solutions out of the conversations, solutions such as Biogas Recovery Plants, also known as cheap and clean power from poop is such an obvious thing.   Every sewerage plant in Australia should be converted into a biogas producing facility.  If we had ever local area in Australia producing gas, this could go a long way towards sorting out the NSW methane gas problems in particular and we could have cheap gas fuelling dozens of either combined cycle gas fired power stations or single/simple cycle gas fired power stations.

There is also two very good electricity generation solutions being completely ignored and both of these offer our nation way of putting a stop to us burying loads of rubbish via landfill operations.

We can actually make electricity from plastic and rubbish, this is possible via two remarkable technologies and one of them is an Aussie invention:

1.    Chemical Recycling Of Plastics via Licella’s CAT-HTR technology can produce synthetic gas that could be used to fuel gas fired power stations and also produces plasticrude that can be used to make new plastics or can be refined to make diesel, a very clean diesel.

2.    Equally important is Sierra Energy’s FastOx Gasification Technology, these plants will take all forms of our rubbish and turn it into either synthetic gas, liquid stone or liquid metal.  These plants don’t need us to sort out our rubbish, just throw it all in and let their in excess of 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit/2,200 degrees Celsius process sort it out.

Is it due to a lack of rationality lozenges that every landfill operation in Australia hasn’t been converted into a dual processing facility where we first ensure all the plastics we can economically separate from our rubbish goes down process 1 (CAT-HTR) and then the remainder goes down process 2 (FastOx Gasification).

Would a rationality boost via these lozenges finally make Australia realise that Nuclear Power is the most obvious solution for a greener future. 

I personally say, “Please Nuke Power Me Now” and I think we should hold out and if we go nuclear, we go via the best and most advanced nuclear power technology and only do it on the proviso that we also adopt reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel technology so that we have a closed fuel system (advanced fuel cycle). 

This way we ensure that all of our Nuclear Reactors will not only give us very cheap electricity for generations to come but also make sure that we don’t need to bury hardly any spent fuel at all.  This will mean that only go for Fast Neutron Nuclear Reactors and eventually I am hoping we go down the path of Thorium Breeder Reactors (we might be waiting 15 or more years for these to be available though).

Even if we just kicked things off by commissioning a gen3+ traditional nuclear power technology such as the Westinghouse AP1000 Reactor at the liddell site once we’ve completed the nuclear moratorium removal procedure.

At the very least, it’s a start and will get us used to the idea of Nuclear Power and get rid of the ‘boogey man’ notion associated with this cheap, clean, reliable and safe electricity providing nuclear power technology.

Maybe widespread dispensing of rationality lozenges amongst the leaders that need to make important decisions regarding electricity generations is exactly what Australia needs?

Maybe these lozenges would prevent our country from taking 10 Billion Dollar Offshore Gambles with taxpayer money on wind turbine arrays that can only work if the wind is blowing at ‘exactly the right speed’.

Onshore Wind Turbines are just as irrational and are a great example of where I think rationality lozenges could have saved the taxpayers a lot of money, so much so I ended up writing a series of articles on this irrational way of generating electricity under the category of “Wind Turbine Site Rehabilitation”.

It wasn’t long after that where I ended up creating a 25 Year Plan for Australia and this plan is based on balancing environmental ideals with population realities.

Nuclear Power is definitely the future solution but for the problems we are facing right now, we need to start building baseload electricity providing solutions that will burn coal and gas (which we have an abundance of) but only use the absolute best technologies available, such as Ultra Supercritical High Efficiency Low Emissions (HELE) coal fired power plants. Or what I like to call “Ultra Rational Coal Fired Power”.

By advocating for the use of rationality lozenges, we’ll hopefully have a society with the ability to make wise decisions on important subjects and it will highlight the importance of clear, unbiased thinking in creating policies that will affect the lives of millions of people.

I’d love to hear of someone in government saying to a fellow member, “Take two rationality lozenges and call me in the morning if your irrationality persists”.

Yep, rationality lozenges could become a delivery system for level headed thinking and help our country churn out policies that are thoughtful, well-researched, and devoid of emotional or irrational influences.

5.0 What would a completely irrational policy look like?

Example 1: Using ridiculously high immigration to mask economic struggles during a financial crisis.

During a financial crisis, some countries may think they should resort to high immigration and give other countries the impression that they are actually experiencing economic growth.

It’s as if they are wishing to say, “Nothing to see here folks, move along, we’re going great”.

This approach is frequently characterised by a lack of rationality and may result in an unmanageable influx of new residents. 

The people behind these schemes believe that simply welcoming a large number of people who may not even be able to find housing will boost consumer spending, expand the labour force, and contribute to GDP growth.   I realise this sounds crazy, but it happens on occasion in our silly old world.

By increasing the population, the people behind the steering wheel of these nations aim to create an illusion of economic resilience and recovery.   

However, nothing could be further from the truth; this horrid and inept strategy can be misleading and potentially detrimental to long-term economic stability.

The core argument against using high immigration as a quick fix during financial downturns is twofold.

Firstly, while an increased population may offer a temporary boost in economic indicators, it does not necessarily address underlying structural issues.

The apparent growth can mask deeper economic problems, such as stagnant wages, underemployment, and insufficient social infrastructure.

Secondly, the sudden surge in population can put additional strain on already stressed public services, housing, and job markets, exacerbating existing challenges rather than resolving them.

It is crucial to examine the broader implications of relying on high immigration to mask economic struggles.

Overall economic growth refers to the increase in the total output of goods and services produced by an economy over a specific period. This metric is typically measured by the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which aggregates the value of all final goods and services produced within a country.

While overall economic growth provides a snapshot of the economy’s size and production capacity, it does not account for population changes.

This is where growth per capita becomes particularly relevant. Growth per capita measures the economic output per individual within the population, effectively adjusting for population growth or decline.

By dividing the GDP by the total population, growth per capita offers a more accurate depiction of the average economic well-being and living standards of citizens.

Focusing solely on overall economic growth can be misleading, especially in the context of high immigration rates.

An influx of immigrants can inflate the GDP, creating the illusion of economic prosperity.

However, if the population grows faster than the economy, the per capita growth may stagnate or even decline, indicating that the average citizen may not experience any real improvement in living standards.

 Policymakers must prioritise this metric to ensure that economic gains translate into tangible benefits for the populace, rather than masking underlying economic struggles with superficial growth figures.

7.0 The Impact of Excessive Immigration During a Financial Crisis.

During a financial crisis, the influx of excessive immigration can significantly exacerbate economic hardships.

The first thing you may notice is that the job market has faded away into obscurity.   This can often lead to increased levels of people ‘feeling sad’.

When people are feeling sad due to not having a job, they sometimes end up being what is called, ‘Without A Home’ or ‘Homeless’ and this is what we call, ‘A Bad Thing’.

When nobody has a job and everyone is homeless, people are known to start feeling what is called, ‘Extremely Sad’ and this is what we call, ‘A Very Bad Thing’.

When your immigration policy causes most people in your country to feel ‘Extremely Sad’, there is a good chance that your policy might be lacking rationality.

Moreover, if the huge influx of immigrants you decided on during a financial downturn has put additional pressure on people being able to like you, there is always a chance they might not vote for you in the next election.

Welfare programs, unemployment benefits, and other social services are all designed to support the population during times of need.  However, there is always a chance that if you are the one that signed off on a policy that allowed nearly everyone in your country to need these services, you may have accidentally caused these services to collapse, “Whoopsy”.

A huge demand for these services, due to a growing population that you brought into play at a time where there is a national housing shortage, the worlds highest electricity costs, record levels of business going bankrupt and ever increasing levels of homelessness could be seen as a mistake on your part.

This may lead to depletion and diminished support for anything that has got your name on it and that could cause you to feel somewhat sad.

As much as people will no doubt feel sad that you are now feeling ‘somewhat sad’, this scenario have probably left both immigrants and your entire population feeling a little confused as to why you were given the job of writing such an important policy document.

After all, they may not be enjoying the reality of long-term homelessness and living with no money in their wallets.  They might somehow associate your mistake with exacerbating poverty and social discontent across the entire country and that could leave you feeling ‘very worried’.

As the housing market has obviously been nearly destroyed by your decision to go for excessive immigration during an economic crisis, some people actually blame you for the whole thing and this could leave you feeling ‘extremely worried’.

If your policy has created an unmanageable increased demand for housing and has driven up property rental and purchase prices to the point that only the richest 1% of your country can afford to live in a house, this may not go down well with the populace.  

It is in these situations, we recommend you start exercising immediately as you might soon find yourself needing to do what we call, ‘Running for the hills as if your career and more depends on it’.

We are now almost convinced that policy makers should probably avoid doing anything that results complete overcrowding of a nation that leads to nearly your entire population becoming homeless.  

Our thinking behind this is that if you make everyone in your country become homeless via an immigration policy, nothing good can possibly come from it.

Sadly, the world is now facing many instances of where bad or irrational policy has made people become homeless, these people are also known as accommodation impaired and they usually that feel sad most of the time.

When everyone is without any form of accommodation or homelessness enhanced, it places a huge strain community resources, exacerbates social challenges and makes a lot of people that were once happy, now start to feel what’s called, ‘the opposite of happy’.

Healthcare systems are similarly affected by irrationally large surges in immigration during financial a crisis.

With an influx of new residents, public healthcare services may become overwhelmed, leading to longer wait times, reduced access to essential health services, and a decline in the quality of care provided.

The increased demand for medical services can strain already limited resources, making it more difficult to address the needs of both new and existing patients.

Excessive immigration during a financial crisis can lead to heightened competition for tents, cars that people can sleep in and instances of 20 people trying to live inside a 2 bedroom flat.  

A very carefully thought out and rationality infused immigration policy is essential to ensure that the needs of both immigrants and existing residents are met during quite possibly the hardest times in some peoples lives.

8.0 A Policymakers Role in Assessing Immigration Economic Impacts.

In the intricate landscape of economic management, only policymakers equipped with specialized training in advanced rationality and immigration policy can thoroughly comprehend the multifaceted implications of immigration on the economy.

These highly skilled and very rational policymakers play a pivotal role in scrutinizing the economic impact of immigration, given the complex interplay of labour markets, public services, and social cohesion.

Their expertise is crucial in distinguishing between artificial economic growth, which may be inflated by an influx of immigrants, and genuine, per capita growth that substantively improves the living standards of existing citizens.

Policymakers must possess an excellent understanding of how immigration affects various sectors of the economy.

For instance, an increase in the labour force due to high immigration can temporarily boost overall productivity and GDP.

However, without careful analysis, this growth can be misleading. It may not translate into improved per capita income, particularly if the added labour force primarily fills low-wage, low-skill jobs.

Hugely rational and highly trained specialist policymakers are adept at interpreting these dynamics, ensuring that policy decisions are grounded in a holistic view of economic health rather than superficial metrics.

9.0 Artificially Inflating Economic Figures Is 100% Irrational.

In times of financial crisis, governments may resort to rapidly increasing immigration as a strategy to artificially inflate economic figures.

The influx of immigrants can lead to an apparent increase in overall economic activity, as the additional population contributes to consumer spending, labour force participation, and housing demand.

These factors can superficially enhance GDP and other economic indicators, creating an illusion of economic recovery and growth.

However, this approach usually fails to address the underlying economic issues and does little to improve per capita growth.

The focus on overall economic figures can mask the real economic struggles faced by citizens, as the improvements in aggregate data do not necessarily translate to better living standards or increased prosperity for the average individual.

For instance, while GDP might show an upward trend due to the increased population, the per capita GDP a more accurate measure of individual economic well-being may remain stagnant or even decline.

This discrepancy underscores the limitations of using high immigration to address economic challenges during a recession.

While increasing immigration during a financial crisis can create the appearance of economic recovery, it is essential to recognize that this strategy often fails to address the deeper, structural problems within an economy.

One of the primary concerns during economic downturns is the ever increasing numbers of homeless people, business becoming insolvent and people having to sell everything they own and then go live in a tent.
